"girl america"

my girl america is just a youth in this world
her smile is more precious than the sparkle of pearls
and though her age reads she's just a young girl
the age behind her eyes shows the pain that she's swirled
through the hand that's been dealt though it's quiet as kept
the weight was all felt last night when she slept
and as she crept into the dreams of the things of her past
seems to have grown so fast, way beyond her own class
though they're right there with her, her brothers and her sisters
a natural born leader even when her peers diss her
my girl, she's at a crossroads, people praying for her
some are preying on her- magazine ads, sex, drama
smoking marijuana, longing for a father to call her daughter
she's part of a generation longing for reconciliation
and this future that they're facing and this poison that they're tasting
my girl, i know this love that you're chasing

my girl america's crying when she's lying on her bed at night
i can see that she's screaming when she's dreaming for her freedom
my girl america's dying while she's trying just to stop this fight
don't stop believing, my girl america

boys with hungry eyes have been beating her door
telling her that's what she's for, trying to rob at her core
then leave calling her a whore, but still she knows there's more
i know she knows there's more because there is a voice she can't ignore
cause it was founded in the foundations, from the day of her creation
in God we trust engraved on the treasures of her nation
and the void that the boys cant fill
with the tipping of the bottle or the popping of the pill
but still most of her friends don't care as they glare
ready to drown down the tunnel as they frown down the tunnel
they stumble and the tumble breaking down into rubble
my girl america, stop can't you see
its not the circumstances that determine who you're gonna be
but how you deal with these problems and pains that come your way

its for you that i pray with hope for a brighter day
and so i say, your deliverance is coming

faith like a child from your first birth
you left it in the dirt on your worst hurt
and i see each tear and every scar
the hands that have held you where you are
and i can see we've strayed so far
a king born under that morning star
as a crown of thorns was placed to erase
each tear thats touched your face
and his palms and sides were pierced with spears
he hung in love just to draw you near
my girl, out of this whole world
cant you see this is where we started

To my friend:
You don't have to hurt this much anymore. The last part of this song is the most important. Jesus "hung in love just to draw you near." I love that part. This whole Easter thing, that's what it's all about. Jesus wants you to come to Him, and get him to heal all your hurts. He will wrap His arms around you even when no one else will. He will gladly heal your hurts, when you bring them to Him.
Nothing else this world can offer will satisfy. Oh sure, they will for a while, but there's more to life.
Keep your innocence as long as you can. It is soooo important. Don't believe what the world tells you. That doesn't matter.
I don't know why you hurt, or why you turn to other things. But believe me, Jesus is the answer, as cliche as that sounds.
I want so much to protect you from hurt, and from all these things that come your way, but I can't. But what I can say is that when crazy things do come your way, turn to God and hide yourself in His love. Trust in Him.

Easter weekend

Yay! Tomorrow is my last day of classes before break! But, then I have homework to do. Boooooo...
~Western Heritage term paper (Having just written two other papers this week, I think I can manage another one. Maybe)
~Physical Science homework due Tuesday
~reading the below book for Western Heritage

But...good things are happening this weekend:
~Thursday night: South Weymouth's Easter musical
~Friday night: dinner at Aunt Lori's
~Saturday: Marathon Expo with Mark, Ann, Sarah, and maybe Jeff
~Sunday morning: church at South Weymouth
~Sunday afternoon: dinner at Jeff and Dorothy's with Dorothy's family and also Jocelyn
~Monday: watching the Marathon, either in Boston or Natick (at Sarah's brother's place)

I crack myself up....This is the second sentence of my Physical Science paper about the Hubble telescope. (PS Isn't Hubble a funny word to say?) "It has proved to be an advantageous tool to astronomers and a purveyor of fantastic-looking images to amateurs." Why do I use such big words?

I got to talk to my lovely Meghan tonight...she's pretty amazing and I can't wait for her to come to ENC next fall! "Take each day as it comes..." she says.

quote from Under a Cruel Star (p45):
"Some people came back silent, and some talked incessantly as though talking about a thing would make it vanish. Actually, just the opposite is true: once things and thoughts are expressed and described they acquire a new reality, as though by giving them words we give them part of ourselves. After that, they will not allow us to leave them behind."

Aslan quote

Aslan quote from CS Lewis's The Horse and His Boy...I love this!

"I was the lion. I was the lion who forced you to join with Aravis. I was the cat who comforted you among the houses of the dead. I was the lion who drove the jackals from you while you slept. I was the lion who gave the Horses the new strength of fear for the last mile so that you should reach King Lune in time. And I was the lion you do not remember who pushed the boat in which you lay, a child near death, so that it came to shore where a man sat, wakeful at midnight, to receive you."

Copley Square

Copley Square is my new favorite place in Boston. I had to go to the Boston Public Library to find research for my Western Heritage paper.

First off, when I stepped onto the street level, everything was HUGE. To my left, I could see the bottom of the John Hancock Building. And kinda off to my right, I could just barely see the Prudential Building.

(Hancock Building)

The BPL is huge. I walked around it outside later, and it took me just about 5 minutes to go all the way around the building. It was really confusing in there, trying to find where the information was. It was really cool to walk around, because you could almost play hide and seek for forever in there, as well as just meander around and up and down and outside.

I should've taken my laptop with me to the library, but I'm not too sure about having it on the T.

friday night in Boston...

Tonight Nate, Josh, and I went into Boston. We headed to the Science Museum by way of the Charles/MGH T-stop, which meant we got to walk alongside the water for 15 or so minutes till we got to the museum. I took a nifty city picture--you can see all the cars and also buildings too. We walked through all the exhibits, and it was pretty fun.

(city picture)

~The exhibit hall on the "Big Dig" was closed, but you could see stuff still in there. Almost like they started dismantling it but then left it alone. Hm. So it almost fit.

~Dinosaurs went extinct because they got bricked into buildings.

~I finally ate at Mr. Bartley's Burgers...We had to run from the T stop to get there before it closed.

~We played with the convoluted mirrors. That was fun.

(my feet are on the left)

~I made a shadow crow go after an owl.

~I made a sign that said (in pictures): "The motorcycle is going toward the musical kayakers, who will soon be punched from the other side."

~We made sculptures I guess you could say, out of ball-chain things. Josh's was amazing.

(I was putting my nose up to one of those lightning things, but with the camera, you can't see the lightning. Oh well)

~They had a three story Van de Graaff generator. Wow.

~Watch out for those T-rex's. They can really mess you up.

~There was a plastic lawn flamingo in with the mounted wild birds. Um, okay.
